VI. Experimental Conditions

The laboratory in the Department of Chemistry, Fudan University, is equipped with a complete femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy system (HARPIA, Light Conversion, Figure 1).

Figure 1
Figure 1

Another femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy system (Helios, Ultrafast System, Figure 2) is installed in the Department of Chemistry, HKUST.

These advanced devices are mainly used to study the excitation evolution process and structural information of samples on the sub-femtosecond to picosecond scale, providing high-time-resolution and high-precision spectral data for this project. The synthesis of condensed-phase clusters will receive full support from the research group of Prof. Zhongming Sun.

Prof. Zhongming Sun
Prof. Zhongming Sun

Zhongming Sun

Prof. Sun graduated from Wuhan University in July 2001 with a bachelor's degree and obtained a Ph.D. from the Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences in July 2006. Subsequently, he conducted postdoctoral research at Washington State University/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and North Dakota State University in the United States. He served as the leader of the Rare-Earth Coordination Chemistry/Materials Chemistry Research Group and a Ph.D. supervisor at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry from 2010-2018. Since 2018, Prof. Sun has been a professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nankai University. During the postgraduate and postdoctoral periods, Prof. Zhongming Sun mainly engaged in research on high-temperature inorganic solid chemistry, functional coordination compounds, Zintl clusters, metal-organic catalysis, and their mechanisms. Currently, his research group mainly uses coordination chemistry to study the synthesis of negatively charged all - metal clusters and the study of metal - metal bond interactions. Prof. Zhongming Sun has won the "Young Pioneer" award of the Changchun Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has received funding as the Excellent Young Scholar and Distinguished Young Scholar of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has also been selected as a leading talent in Tianjin.

Prof. Mingfei Zhou
Prof. Mingfei Zhou

Mingfei Zhou

Prof. Zhou graduated from Fudan University with a bachelor's degree in 1990 and obtained a Ph.D. from Fudan University in 1995. After graduation, he remained at the same university to teach. He conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Chemistry, University of Virginia, USA from 1997-1999. He was promoted to professor in 2000. He received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China as Distinguished Young Scholar in 2001 and he was appointed as a Changjiang Chair Professor in 2002. Currently, he is a professor and the dean of the Department of Chemistry, Fudan University. Prof. Mingfei Zhou mainly engages in research on molecular spectroscopy and chemical bonds.
